NWA 7317 (CR6)

[MBD][EoM]

NWA 7317; CR6 chondrite (S2, W0/1)
Highly recrystallized with predominantly poikiloblastic texture, but rare barred olivine chondrules with annular olivine rims are present. Although recrystallized, the small chondrules are very apparent in thin section. Minerals are olivine (Fa38.0-38.2; FeO/MnO = 72-79), orthopyroxene (Fs29.3-29.4Wo3.3-3.0; FeO/MnO = 53-61), clinopyroxene (Fs12.8-14.2Wo42.7-40.5; FeO/MnO = 40-41), intermediate plagioclase, troilite, chromite and Ni-rich kamacite (mostly fresh, but some grains show slight staining).

This specimen is evidently paired with NWA 2994, NWA 3250 and NWA 6921, which together constitute the second known CR6 chondrite (after NWA 3100).
